whats the difference between a miniseries and US version? as far as i could tell, they're technically the same thing.

and i love the US version, but the BBC WAS better. it's not even an argument. every character on US is inspired on BBC characters. BBC characters had much funnier personalities. Garreth and Dwight are a toss up though. But Dawn was alot less generic than Pam. Jim and Tim are the same dude, pretty much. David Brent IS funnier than Michael Scott, and Keith SHITS all over Kevin.

How can you say it ain't better? Maybe you don't understand some of the subtle comedy?

Anyway, back to the point, you're wrong. BBC was funnier, and more sincere. Plus up to this point, NBC still milkin the foolishness of Mike until they run into a brick wall and will have to follow BBC and fire him, get Jim and Pam together, etc.

BBC has ONE THING over the US version. One...well two. But the second one doesn't even count for obvious reasons.

1. It's the original. Doesn't make the show better, just makes it more...respectable or whatever.

2. It ends brilliantly. The US version could as well.

As far as what you said...you're dumb. The US version has an entire menagerie of characters, each one with their own schtick. Until the second branch came to the BBC, the BBC version had three:

Tim (willing to bet he is a standup who brings his own jokes to the show)
a. much older than Jim
b. Has a different relationship to Dawn. Tim remains stuck on her through the whole show and repeatedly makes it known to her. Jim never makes it known to her, and as of now in the show? We don't even know if he's not lying about being over her - just that he's upset she's marrying Roy which would make sense for any guy who hates it when girls go for bullshit dudes.
c. Is more bitter and more of an underdog. He's not as laid back and not as eligible as Jim. Jim's a natural leader, laid back, tall, athletic, personable and lives on his own. Tim always looks a bit worn down, he's anxious and sort of short and small, not in the least athletic and not a leader type.

1. He's clueless, he's a loser, and a delusional egoist with a deep rooted seed of insecurity that defines the other half of his personality. He's more a depressing than funny character, his humor is even more understated and less likely to be "gotten" by the common man than Michael's, but SUBTLETY DOES NOT EQUAL SUPERIORITY. HIS GAG IS THAT HE OFFENDS AND PUTS PEOPLE OFF AND YET REMAINS UNDER THIS FALSE IMPRESSION ABOUT HIMSELF. THAT IS HIS GAG. THAT'S ALL.

Gareth is much younger than Dwight and a different kind of character entirely. 95% of his humor depends on his interaction with other characters. Mostly Tim and Dawn picking on him. He is not nearly as funny on his own. Dwight owns the fucking fuck out of Gareth, hands down.

And nearly all of the time, the Beeb's version relied on two jokes. Count them. Two. Jokes.

The US version's is more high energy, more involved, has many many more fleshed out characters, and is more FUNNY. Much, much more funny. BBC version's greatest appeal is IN its sincerity, which you mentioned. It's more an inspirational and life affirming miniseries than a comedy series. But the Jim and Pam storyline? So far it's just superior. There have been more surprises, more near misses, more poignant moments and just more romance in their romance - they are more root forable than Tim and Dawn (who we root for too, just without as much devotion). On the US version there are more jokes and more characters with funny idiosyncrasies - this is just statistical, it's not up for debate. There is more variety in the jokes, the plotlines and the characters. And as far as what you said about the other players like Keith, Dawn etc.?

Pam...is so far superior to Dawn...I am personally offended...that you said that.

She's prettier, she's cuter, she's more put-upon, she's less vapid, she's more animated, she's...just..fucking...forgetaboutit.

Kevin? Has an absolutely PRICELESS stare and mannerisms. Keith has a blank stare and he's creepy in a less endearing way...Kevin is superior. I'll go more in depth with that if you want to get owned worse.

The other neat thing about the BBC is that the writer is on the show. But! Ryan the temp is a writer and story editor on the US version. And personally I think the creative force being a guy who's at the edge of scenes, making knowing comments and playing minor roles in the storyline is more charming and makes more sense. THAT is an opinion. But it's one held by a dude with taste.

I loved the BBC version. I covered my mouth like somebody mom watching Guiding Light during the last few minutes of the Christmas special. But.

US>BBC. Period.
