| What hip hop has been missing 5. New York – Over the past couple of years, hip-hop has seen southern music rise to prominence with the emergence of some of today’s most notable emcees hailing from the south. It’s no denying the influence the south has made on the hip-hop culture. And although it’s good to hear from the once slept on region, it would be great for hip-hop if New York and the east coast came back to add more diversity to the game.
4. GOD MC – With the list of top emcees getting shorter every year and your favorite rapper getting older, hip-hop needs a new voice. An emcee that has the talent to put out top-selling albums and at the same time possess enough charismatic appeal to appear on shows like Oprah or Bill O’ Reilly to defend a culture that’s always been scrutinized by the media.
3. Classic Albums – This past year in music, artists and record labels saw album sells plummet due to bootlegging. Whether or not this has lead some rap artists to focus more on outside business ventures than there music (which has hurt the quality of albums) is up for questioning. And like many others, I’m guilty of buying an album off the strength of one single (damn you Rich Boy), then I’m greatly disappointed when I purchase the album and it’s filled with nothing but album fillers. Hip-Hop is definitely in the need of that one classic album.
2. Originality – Yes, even this still matters in today’s music industry, but it’s definitely hard to come by. When there’s a successful rap artist, industry execs tend to try and clone the artist and duplicate their music by putting out a carbon copy version of the same emcee. This leads to the over saturation of the same type of music, which ultimately hurts hip-hop.
1. Quality Music – Rather than letting their talent speak for themselves, more and more rap artists are looking to ride the wave of an overly publicized rap beef to sell records. This doesn’t work all the time, (please see the career of Gillie Da Kid for more details). In order for the hip-hop culture to continue to grow and remain relevant in today’s music industry, our artist need to put out quality music. That is and always will be the bottom line. Rep Power: 5 | Re: What hip hop has been missing Man... I'm sorry for the negativity, but this is what hip-hop is. It's never going to back to being the way it was. We're in a lost generation, a generation with so much technology you would think hip-hop would blossom more and people would use YouTube, Google, etc to discover what hip-hop really is. But how are they going to search for it if they have no idea it exists? If we keep feeding them this shit on the radio and MTV, how will they know there's more unless MTV stops being such a cult and introduces more factors of hip-hop and what emcees are really like. And I know this is the way things are because in todays world, in most people's mind, if they aren't presented to anything, it will go undiscovered. If you don't know what you're looking for, how can you find it? It's the same case of scenario for myself, "Hey Bob, how come you don't listen to any rock?" Because, it was never introduced to me so I never began to find it interesting. I tried it out... like when RapFlava posted a thread with all rock... I downloaded a couple albums and didn't think any of it suited me. I'm sure there could be some rock that I could even vibe to, but how can you find it when you don't know where to begin looking?
What you see is what you get.

| Re: What hip hop has been missing id disagree with just about all of that.
theres more emcees in the game than ever, and theres more albums and mixtapes being released. if you cant find any hiphop you like, then your being starved of what hiphop has to offer in the modern era.

| Re: What hip hop has been missing the skill of emcees is still as good as it ever was. you say people like fifty are "fucking up" the game, but hes just riding the success that commercial hiphop is seeing. there is still mountains of underground/non commercial albums that would blow you away, if only you spent time searching for it.

What you see is what you get. | Werd!
Mtv and the radio doesn't portray hip hop well. I mean like last two summers ago, it was all about the LEAN WIT IT and ROCK WIT IT, the main problem with hip hop right now is wack ass southern rappers, don't get me wrong, i am not saying all southern rappers are wack, but they are the one's making the most horrible songs right now and new york is just in a fucking slump. Hip Hop needs the Bronx and Queens, basically Hip Hop needs the lyricisim of New York rappers. We are a lost generation like you said because now it's not about lyrics, it's about a banging beat and DECENT or HORRIBLE lyrics. Quote:

At the state hip hop is in right now, you can't suceed with lyricism, this is why i say papoose will flop, but dude is HOT, too many confusing lyrics will hinder his sales(sorry i am bringing album sales into this, but it has to be told). There are just too many wack ass rappers. I think we should make another genre for songs that come out of the south it should be known as general hiphop, that's my opinion and just let the lyricism from the east take over.
