You might want to look into stuff a bit more before you get upset about "false promises" There's a lot of stuff that politican has to go through to get stuff done. Maybe they reached too high in their promises, not realizing it would take more work than they thought or not having the right resourses to get things done. But it would sure be nice if more people cared about their communities. It doesn't matter where you stand on something, the only way a politican will know how you feel is if you let them know. I work in city goverment, but my job is not political. I see it all the time that the minority makes their stance known and the do it very loudly. Whereas the majority doesn't say as much, but then they complain when the minoritys views are being presented. |
Its a pretty broad question, but Im glad to see a response. My take on it is similar to yours. Theres simply to much apathy when it comes down to it. That being said, politicans could at least try to appeal to the groups of people who one dont care or are misinformed. Believe me, I have let politicans know my stance on issues. For the most part they are issues dealing with my states issues, but I have yet to see anything be done about them. Maybe I'm a minority in resolving the issues I'm conserned about, but I doubt it considering that it usually affects everyone in some way. Take for example the social sercurity issue. I know if something isn't done within the next five to ten years that I will be without it when I qualify. On another note, I don't really believe that theres a majority or a minority. Sure, the majority is either republicans or democrats, but with the split down the isle theres always someone on either side who's willing to side with the opposition. It could be stem cell research, tax cuts, the war in Iraq, etc. Theres always that group of politicans who side with the opposite side of the isle because of their morals on any given issue. However, at times I feel like after we elect these people into office they simply disregard us in policy. Its like we are nothing to them.
