March 7, 2007 -- Blacks and Hispanics are much more likely to be burned by the system when it comes to simple marijuana arrests, a new study shows.

Even though blacks and Hispanics each account for 25 percent of Gotham's residents, blacks accounted for 52 percent of misdemeanor arrests for possession of marijuana in public view, and Hispanics for 32 percent, the study said.

The report, covering more than two decades, was first debated last August, but is now going to be published, with updated statistics, in the journal Criminology and Public Policy..

Dr. Andrew Golub and his colleagues at the National Development and Research Institute said their study revealed that blacks and Hispanics "receive harsher treatment at each stage of the criminal-justice system."

Paul Browne, the NYPD's deputy commissioner of public information, called it a "flawed study" that was underwritten by a pro-marijuana legalization group.

There are many variables that could change that. For instance, do a larger percentage of blacks & hispanics picked up for dope have priors? How many of these people in the study were on parole/probation? This 'study' seems like it is agenda motivated and flawed.

I do find it unfair and not very just how people are catchin a harder time,
worse treatment, and longer jail sentences etc, due to them bein non white.

HOWEVER, I don´t believe in treating people badly becouse of their skin color or race,
period! I´m also not one that believes in two wrongs make a right, or getting back at all types of innocent white, becouse certain white cops may have treated me badly etc.
You should study some of my post regarding racism and predjudice.
I´m AGAINST IT!

What I´m doin here is merely pointing out the gross and obvious, plain injustice and singleing out that is a fact, and is very much a routine and a method, that police and other authorities
are applying in regards to how they deal whith non whites.
