Default The music industry racist or not?

see in all types of music for the music industry its highlighted by race/color,

ex:

Country white males and females: you know there blacks that do that kinda music so they just not good or they jus put in back cuz its mainstream white?

Same with metal mainstream white

hip hop mainstream black

etc etc

is it really racist or "just how shit is placed"

think that should get this sparkin

the industry plays off of the stereotypes out in the world.. i dont believe they themselves are neccesarily racist.. but race affects decisions they make..

No it's not racist, it's a lil' thing called culture.
If you come to my household, you will hear beats and rhythms that you would identify with hip-hop and some songs might even sound mad familiar...but it's not it's African music.
Black people can't really identify with loud music that sounds like it's whole purpose is to destroy your hearing. We are people of rhythm and colour so naturally our music reflects that so of course we will dominate in that feild.
It has nothing to do with racism.
Of course every now and then you get the weird one, ukno the black dude who love Marilyn Manson and the white dude who relates more to Nas than his own father.

Absolutley, however you're surroundings are going influence you just a bit. And although I love me some Norah Jones and Coldplay, my preffered music is still black music and thats cuz i spent my life around black people.

I have to disagree, i know this is an AMERICAN based site, but before you answer a question like this you have to think about OTHER countries....i don't think it's racial...and glitch your saying cultural as in black people as a culture...so africans have the same culture as jamaicans? or jamaicans have the same culture as an aboriginal??

An individual will choose to listen to music because it's there taste...if theres a country based around one colour that dominates as in "being more of", and they listen 2 say soul and then you get another country with a different colour who like the EXACT same music, which side is the weird one?

New Zealand - Hip Hop n Reggae dominate
Australia - Mainstream Hip Hop, Pop and Techno dominate
etc etc

Music is Music, you don't see labels saying this cd is directed for the people of this colour this race or such n such and is to only be sold to this race....racism is bullshit, it's just people from every nationality being to stubborn to move on or just ignoring shit thats been said, if you don't talk about it, don't act on it...then theres no fuel to the fire

^I agree. I mean they say Hip-Hop and Rap is black music, but look at the majority of the people on top...white. If you ask me, our "culture" is gettin raped for profit by most of these conglomorate white dudes who just out for that dolla. And as for the black niggas on top, and especially the music they puttin out now, I just concider them saleouts. And let me get on Hip-Hop culture; the dressing aspect of it. Tommy Hilfiger a racist, yet we still be rockin his shit. I'm not really gonna go in depth with this, but I'm just sayin you can't call somethin yours unless it's 100% yours. Know what I mean? Racism evolved wit stealth...

I think he meant more along the lines of Exec's and CEO's. Trust me, being a signed artist is basically the bottom of the record label barrel.
