One last time. For the people In doubt , "Madden 2005" or "ESPN Football 2K5" ?
Personally I like "Madden 2005" cause the gameplay Is arcade style and you can just make 60 yard passes with decent QB's 'n WR's ... and the defending Is killer as well. Only minor thing are the graphics because It looks kind of static to me and the player models and textures are blurred same with player animations and off the field happenings but you do have newspapers and such that report news from your team and opponents etc.
There's not much about It graphically , but the gameplay Is just easy to learn ... well ofcourse you gotta know how football works but If you don't you learn within 30 minutes or something because there are llittle MiniGames put In that learn you how to defend , attack , kick and block attacks etc. The only difficult thing In football Is calling plays but you can select the coach to pick a suggested play which Is rather boring In my oppinion but great for beginners to the sport.
The Good Ish : Easy gameplay , easy to learn , just hard fast arcade action , there's EA Sports Radio , e-mail and newspapers that keep you up to date about all progression In the franchise.
The Bad Ish : Bad graphics , not much animation on and off the field , maybe It's a little too simple.
Then we go to "ESPN 2K5" ....
This game Is really realistic .... It's like actually watching a spectacular NFL night broadcast with commentators that discuss the game before It starts and the off the field animations are damn good like fans jumping up and down and stuff. It starts spectacular ... the gameplay Is a little more sophisticated then Madden's but also more realistic. Madden Is fast arcade action , but ESPN Is more of the real deal where you pick up yard by yard and actually jump off the couch when you make a 30 yard pass while that's easily do-able In Madden. So It's hard to score touchdowns In ESPN at first ... defense and offense plays are good and there's the abillity to design your own plays that you can save In your VIP file so that you can fully customize your personal playbook.
The gameplay Is slower , sometimes It gets Irritating because you want osme fast action and pick up yards pretty quickly without all the waiting and yet another 4th down giving away the ball with a mistimed punt.
The Good Ish : Great graphics and atmosphere that actually look like a real NFL broadcasting , realistic gameplay , fully customizable personal playbook you can save to your coaching profile.
The Bad Ish : Even though It's the normal pace of the sport the gameplay tends to get real slow which can be Irritant and boring at times , receivers tend to drop the ball If you don't exactly time the catch and a QB must exactly follow the receiver's route and time the pass which Isn't easy.
So the verdict , may the best hardcore NFL game win.
I can say "ESPN Football 2K5" Is a better game If you look for realism and real atmosphere the sport breathes out. But If you're more Into harder action and a bit faster arcade-style gameplay Madden Is your game ... and I said Madden didn't look as good as ESPN which Is treu but Madden still looks pretty good so It's not a reason not to buy.
But In the end I think you could better rent Madden because It's not a game you play for weeks on a row , the gameplay Is too easy that every game starts looking like the previous one so after a while It gets reppetetive. ESPN Is a bigger game content-wise , way more options and game preparations. Madden Is better for beginning football fans , and ESPN Is for advanced football heads In my oppinion. That's just It.
