Rep Power: 9 | NBA players going to europe
what do u think about people like brezek and childress going to
european leagues..i think its retarted...id rather be a mid level
nba player and play for the worlds biggest title..then be a star on
a team where i dont speak the language...can anyone even name
a european team...he could go 10 years as mvp other there
and not see an american sports highlight for the whole time...
personally i say fuck em...but what happens when teams
start throwing 50- or 60 million to say a decent star....then
the rest will be looking for like 70-80 and then they leave..
and it becomes a domino.effect.....dont think tim duncan wouldent
bounce for a cool 75 million....

Rep Power: 9 | Re: NBA players going to europe i agree, i would rather get paid slightly less to have a shot at the best title available in my chosen sport, but i dont think the nba/teams will really start to care until one of the euro teams snatches a huge star, then the war will begin. cause these european teams got a lot of money. players can get deals that include a massive house, car and everything else needed to start a new like + the money they are paid to play!

Rep Power: 15 | Re: NBA players going to europe what if you grow up in la, you love them growing up your whole life. but lakers dont need you so you could get picked up by the miami or some euro league and get a shit load of extra cash. fuck the biggest title, or the best league, if your going to play for a team you dont love either way im taking the money.

| Re: NBA players going to europe Fellas i agree and disagree at the same time. heres why
I was living in miami and playin ball at miami high in a tourney in 2001 just before the towers went down and a recruiter from the philipeans came down and offered me a contract to go play there. i didnt go because of safety issues, i asked Tim Hardaway would 85k be worth it and he said no because your life is worth way more so i didnt accept the offer.
so safety for americans abroad is a concern for me.
also i know lots of players getting paid over seas that are from the US right now
teams like maccabi and televiv teams and the teams from spain and italy and venezuela pay crazy dough! lots of players you have forgot about are in the euro leagues livin lovely.
and in the summer time they come home to summer leagues like the EBC and the Goya leagues.
my number 1 reason for not going would be that i would rather get paid here in the states and be near my family than be paid away from them in Europe.

Rep Power: 4 | Re: NBA players going to europe timeeeoutttt....theres no way u can be mad at a decent nba player for goin over seas to make MAJORRRR GUAP...
there is only 1 con to being over seas playin ball...which is...YOU ARE OVER SEAS...
over seas contracts are NEVER long term contracts for crazy guap...i think childress
got a 3 year deal (which is pretty long for an over seas contract) for 20 million (if memory serves me correctly)...thats like a 300% increase (exaggeration) to the money he was makin for the hawks...
if ur playing in other well established countries like russia, spain, italy, greece, germany...YOU BECOME A FUCKING STAR...U GET ALMOST TRIPLE YOUR SALARY FROM THAT OF THE NBA...YOU LIVE IN A FREE CRIB...THE MONEY YOU GET IS TAX FREE (i think...im pretty sure..again from memory)...YOU GET A FREE WHIP, AND YOU ARE THE STAR OF THE TEAM...so Josh Childress = LeBron James over seas (lol basically)...
ILL TAKE THAT LIFE ANY DAY !!!!!
edit:
Even high school players are starting to take contracts over seas to avoid college while waiting for the nbas bullshit age requirement...
Brandon Jennings could start a trend for dumb high school freaks of basketball who cant get an sat score to get into a college...instead...sign a 5 million dollar contract for 1 year overseas...and come back to get drafted in the first round...SOUNDS PRETTY SMART TO ME since they wouldnt stay in college for more then 1 year anyway...(record amount of freshmen drafted this year)

| Re: NBA players going to europe Isn't Kobe considering going Euro as well..? I wonder if a big name, top NBA star like Kobe did go overseas if ESPN or FSN would start covering those games here in the states.!? Because I can honestly say I've never seen an overseas Basketball game televised. It's like the Japanese Baseball leagues.. no one here gives a fuck but when a well known American player goes over there sometimes ESPN will cover the games they play in during highlights. |

thats gilbert arenas...hes at the top of the pay scale...players like JOSH CHILDRESS AND CARLOS ARROYO are fuckin stars over there...with contracts going from 3 years 8 million to 3 year 20 million...BIG DIFFERENCE IN MY BANK ACCOUNT...60 mil to 75 aint much of a difference...and ur right about it not being the number 1 sport...
soccer > then any sport worldwide Quote:

olympics games is a 180 difference in degree from the NBA...all egos aside...they are playing for america this year...thats why they are so good...cuz players like kobe are willing to take a back seat in the offensive department...KOBE HAS BEEN THE BEST DEFENDER ON THE TEAM GUARDING EVERY COUNTRIES BEST PLAYER EVERY GAME...PERIOD...it doesnt matter who scores the most when ur playing for an olympic team..for ur country...at least it shudnt!
