Ask me anything. From supplements and diet to work-outs and training programs. I have a pretty extensive background in this stuff, but I'm always down to do some research.

Rep Power: 4 | Re: Malphunxion's Sports Nutrition Q&A Vulgar. I would think, (and I'm guessing here) because a bamboo tree is not very thick or well-rooted, that it would indeed strengthen your muscles. As would kicking anything for an extended period of time. It's the cumulative damage to your joints, bones, and muscles that you should be wary of.
Phonix. I work with a gentleman who trained Muy Thai for several years, and it seems to be one of the most well-rounded, as well as dangerous, martial arts forms. If you've seen the movie Ong Bak, you know the deal. Go for it.
And as far as increasing weight... going to the gym isn't going to do much unless you're taking in adequate amounts of protein, carbs, calories, and healthy fats. Give me an idea of what you're doing there, and what your current diet consists of, as well as your weight as of now and your future weight goals.

Gatorade is good if you're training or doing anything physical. It just replaces electrolytes. There's a product called Amino Vital that replaces amino acids AND electrolytes and is less expensive than Gatorade. Vitamin Water's only good for drinking as a regular beverage... it has trace amounts of basic vitamins. So it's a better alternative to other bottled drinks.

Rep Power: 4 | Re: Malphunxion's Sports Nutrition Q&A ^ It's a science. That holds true if you're naturally big. Or you have some meat on you. If you're small/light... you need to eat. 'Cause you're gonna get shredded and lean out, but that's not that Phonix wants. Right? Everyone needs protein. When you work out, you tear muscle. That's how you get bigger; muscle re-pair. Only protein and amino acids are gonna do that. And if you wanna get BIG, you need to eat. Real, quality food. Not McDonalds. A creatine supplement, just some straight monohydrate, prolly wouldn't hurt either. But if you're not putting the right shit in your body and setting a goal, don't even bother.

Rep Power: 4 | Re: Malphunxion's Sports Nutrition Q&A I haven't heard of that specific brand, but there're lots of "carbo" drinks out there. The Maximize Burner is prolly just a Redline-type knockoff, loaded with caffeine, herbs like Yohimbe and Yerba Mate, and amino acids that work synergistically (together) to help "burn fat;" basically by improving blood-flow, boosting your metabolism, and obviously giving you the energy to work a little harder and sweat the pounds off. The Maximize Carbo is prolly just a carbs supplement, that you drink before, during, and/or after (< prolly the best time) your workout, which is gonna give your body the carbohydrates (and electrolytes) it needs to spike your insulin levels and give you more sustained energy and, in turn, recovery.

Rep Power: 4 | Re: Malphunxion's Sports Nutrition Q&A If you're doing it on a low-budget and you wanna get swoll, Muscle Milk is an okay choice. It's got 18g of fats, but they're medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs); the "good fats" that I was talking about. If you're active, like you said you are, you're not gonna store them. Muscle Milk is a little expensive, but it's also got several different proteins that digest at different speeds. And it tastes unbelievabley good. One serving is 2 scoops, so I'd suggest taking both of those immediately after your workout. Like, within 5-10 minutes.
If you just want a good whey protein that'll be less expensive, go with Optimum Nutrition. It's a great all-around protein. Tastes good. 24g in one scoop. And it's got digestive enzymes like Protease and Lactase that'll help you absorb it better. Same thing as the Muscle Milk; take 1 serving before or after your workout, within a 30-minute window.
And make sure you eat. If you're real serious, I can put a supplement/meal plan together.
YOU GUYS GOTTA TELL ME YOUR GOALS. Getting shredded? Getting bodybuilder-big? I don't wanna point you towards the wrong thing.
