Rep Power: 6 | anybody here read? and if so, what have you recently peeped? last few joints i knocked out... The Last Juror by John Grisham - loved it. i've read all but three of his books and this easily ranks up there with some of his better ones. rich setting, great characters, and the story was on point. great book, he does it again. The Last Gangster by George Anastasia - i was flipping through the channels one night and happened to stop on 60 minutes. they were doing this piece on this guy named Ron Previte, a gangster with the Philadelphia La Costra Nostra family. he wore a wiretap for two years and helped the feds send a ton of people to jail. in the interview he seemed like a cool ass cat, so i ended up checking out the book. the author gave a detailed acount of the Philly mob scene and other personalities besides Previte. it loses steam towards the end, but overall this was solid. The Hurricane:The Miraculous Journey of Rubin Carter by James S. Hirsch - i've never seen the Denzel flick but this book was great. i don't read biographies unless the person seems worthy of my time, so i was glad this book was so well written. the way the author chronicled Rubins life was almost bible-like. you get a lot of insight into Rubin's thoughts, the story surrounding him, and the outsiders that became important to his saga. amazing story, definitely worth the read.
right now i'm in the middle of two books (i keep one for the shitter and one for regular reading) that i'm about done with right now. Precision suggested this to me, so i picked it up the other day. http://search.barnesandnoble.com/boo...43483235&itm=1
it seems like a really good book from the reviews. hopefully it won't let me down.
----
anybody read anything decent lately?

I hear there's this book though about this cats personal journals up until his death and it was gang related and in the 70s I think? Not sure. If that's it, yeah then that's the book I was hearing about and cat eventually gets murdered.
I still need to cop a good book though, and I'm cheap as hell so I don't wanna pay anything more then like a good $10 on a book. Fuck that, paper back bitches.
Brian Jacques is what got me started on reading, had I not picked up one of his books, I wouldn't have loved it as much.
I hate those books based on video games though, my fucking god I tried to read myst and I could never get off the first page without yawning.
Anyone actually read Lord of the Rings? My god Frodo seems so fucking fruity..singing and dancing and shit like that in the book. Man... Not too mention the shit was waayyy too bulky on description in my opinion. Anyone else actually read it? Or try to? |

and na i haven't tried to read lord of the rings either. the exerpts i've read seemed a bit too wordy for me, and fantasy books aren't really my thing. i'll stick to the movies, i finally got return of the king the other day. damn that shit was flame. |
