Rep Power: 0 | Go School! Music Producer / Engineer Responsibilities-
In the music industry, the record producer has many important roles. Some of these rolls include controlling the recording session, coaching the performers, and supervising the mixing and mastering of the song. The engineer is the technical speacilist who edits the song to make it sound better. The first step of a session is to decide where to place the microphones. This is one of the first decisions the engineer must make in order for the track to sound as good as possible. Engineers then record the musician a single track at a time. After each track is finished, the quality is usualy discussed with the producer and the artist. The engineer then makes the required adjusments and the track is usualy recorded again for a better sound. After all the track are complete to the satisfactory level of quality, the engineer mixes them down to two tracks, wich are then used to create the master. Engineers and producers must have excellent verbal communications, technical expertise with recordeing equiptment, a good musical ear, and be willing to work long hours. They must also have great patients, and great attention for minor details in each track.
Salary-
The starting Salary of a record producer can be up to $50,000 a year. Eventualy, depending on the producer, a single beat can be purchased for nearly that amount. The cost of each beat by a producer depends on the quality of the beat, and the popularity of the producer. Somtimes producers get a percentage of the money made from the final song.
Training-
Most of the training for a music producer and an engineer will come from a university. Learning from a technical school is usualy how producers and engineers gain there knowledge of the equiptment and the scince of there profession.
Location-
A freelance engineer can be on call for different record companys and studios. A study may send a freelance engineer to a different place in the U.S. or the world everytime they call on them. A succesful record producer can work out of there home making beats and selling them to artists. If a producer has a studio set up in his house, it makes his job much easier. If a producer is popular enough, artists may come to him for beats, making it so that the producer never has to leave his home.
Equiptment Used-
The equiptment used by music producers and engineers differs depending on there budget, and the type of job they are doing. Producers may use anything from a simple and relativly cheap beat making program on a computer, to a very expensive beat making machine. Every producer has there preferance of the type of equiptment they use. Engineers use many different types of mixing boards and computers. As technology advances, so does the equiptment of producers and engineers.
