Def Jam Drop Nas? According to reports, Nas's refusal to change the name of his forthcoming album, "******," may lead to him getting dropped from the label.
"There is no way that we can put out an album with that title. Many retailers have already told us - flat out - that they won't carry [an album with that title] ... Nas' last album [Hip Hop Is Dead] sold pretty well, but not well enough for the headache he's causing [the label]." A source reportedly told Hip Hop Game.
"If Nas doesn't change his mind, he'll be dropped. And he doesn't have to much time to come to that realization." He continued.
Contradicting rumors however, in October of 2007, Def Jam Chairman, Antonio "L.A." Reid said that they were supporting Nas 100%.
“We support everything our artists do, everything! We stand firmly behind and beside our artists with pride and with pleasure.” Reid tells MTV.
“Anything Nas wants to do, I completely stand beside him. Nas is prolific, he’s prophetic, he’s a genius, an amazing artist of respect. So, while I’m not sure exactly all that the title entails, I know it’s smart, so I stand behind him. That’s real.” |
