Rep Power: 2 | Cops Out Of Control? what comes to mind when u read this? An unarmed man has been shot dead by police in New York City hours before he was to have been married, prompting fury over the officers' actions.
Two of the man's friends were hurt in the shooting, which occurred outside a strip club where they had been celebrating before the wedding.
Police fired 50 bullets at a car carrying the men after it reportedly struck an unmarked police vehicle.
New York's mayor says police had acted fearing an armed "altercation".
"Officers on the scene had reason to believe that an altercation involving a firearm was about to happen and were trying to stop it," Michael Bloomberg said.
The club was under surveillance because of its long history of weapons complaints, drug-dealing and prostitution, New York's Police Chief Raymond Kelly said.
Civil rights activist Al Sharpton has demanded the police explain its actions.
"Gunshots all over the place. This is outrageous at best," he said.
He also criticised the police for handcuffing the two men receiving emergency care for their injuries in hospital.
Denise Ford, the mother of one of the men hurt in the shooting, is quoted as saying her son was shot in the hand, right leg and buttocks.
"I think this is messed-up on the cops' behalf," Ms Ford told New York newspaper Newsday.
"They're too hotheaded and something needs to be done about it." Police suspicions
A total of 21 bullets hit the car the men were in as they left the strip club, police said. The driver, Sean Bell, was to be married later on Saturday. He was pronounced dead on arrival at hospital.
One of his passengers, Joseph Guzman was hit by at least 11 bullets and is in a critical condition in hospital.
The other passenger, Trent Benefield, was hit three times and is in a stable condition. Police Chief Kelly said the three men were also being watched.
He said an undercover officer at the club had reported that the men were in a group that was involved in a dispute with another person outside the club.
The officer had reportedly called his colleagues saying he feared a gun would be produced.
As the men left the scene, a car they were driving struck an undercover officer on the shin.
It also hit an unmarked police vehicle, which is when five of the seven police officers on the scene opened fire, Mr Kelly said.
No weapons were found on the three men or in their car. An investigation is under way.
In 1999, New York police fired 41 bullets at unarmed Amadou Diallo, killing him. The four officers involved were acquitted of all charges. |

Rep Power: 10 | Re: Cops Out Of Control? one situation that is wrong, doesnt mean the police are out of control. I dont know enough about this story to comment on whether it was right or wrong, although it looks on the surface bad. The cops, as a whole, are good decent people trying to help communites. Of course there are bad people in the police, there are bad people in EVERY line of work. But all cops are not corrupt racists trying to murder black people. [and a side note. I know al not-so-sharpton wants to make this a racial issue, but when i heard the story i believe there were hispanic and black cops there, it wasnt just a group of white cops.] |

remember cops are just like any other slice of society
your going to have the good with the bad
so are there SOME cops that are out of control?
yes
these guys? possibly
dont forget it is a tough job too and maybe ( alot of times) it isnt all quite as innocent as its played to be potentially in either direction |

I can NOT imagine the pain of the bride . Her life and the lives of countless others have been forever altered. I have to ask myself in times like these how could I ever Forgive? |

The cops, as a whole, are good decent people trying to help communites.
| There are different cops.. they run into me a lot so I can break em into categories.
1. Lousy scum fukk - This type of cop is the one who didn't do shit after High School and decided "Hey I'll just be a police officer". Usually dumb and ignorant, think they the shit cuz they got a badge. Most of them weren't the popular kids in high school so this allows em to get back at people for being dicks to em.
2. Just-doing-my-job guy - This mufukka generally is like most of us: likes to get paid for doing nothing. You can find these sleeping on the side of the road in their cruisers, feeding the ducks, or patrolling already safe neighborhoods. Doesn't like to deal wit the lows of society but always "is just doing his job".
3. Captain Save a Fukker - This dude is the self righteous dickweed that thinks every person with a spec of marijuana in their cars is a career criminal. This type will most likely lecture you the entire time they search your car for no reason. Usually you can get these faggets to search lackadaisically by distracting them with conversation about the law and your rights.
4. Balanced Officer - This is the type of cop we all like to get searched by. If you think you got this type of officer, tell em the truth. They are usually smart individuals who most likely had kids and became a cop because he had to support his family. Most of these cops will throw out small amounts of trees or will just give you the ticket for the offense you committed without warrant checks and all that. They most of the time dont stereotype either.. most level headed of all the types. These officers dont let their job affect their mindstate or outlook on life.
But jeah, most of all fukkin PIGS are out of control and deserve to get STOMPED the fukk out.

Rep Power: 10 | Re: Cops Out Of Control? ^i dont know the details of the case, so im not going to say either way they did or didnot have the right to shoot. Im guessing it was overkill, but thats just a guess. Even if thats the case, that in no way proves that all cops are "inconsiderate pricks" as you put it. There are bad people in ever part of society, including cops. You cant say they are ALL corupt because of a few bad people. IMO most cops are good people. MOST not ALL. |
