The whole mentality is pretty sad and illustrates some of the more pressing issues in the black community IMO. I'm curious as to how everyone else feels about it / who disagrees with it "don't snitch" / who agrees with it.

I was going to bring this up actually. I didn't see the whole piece, but I have heard clips. I heard the clip where he was asked if he knew a serial killer lived next door, would he call the police. he said no. he'd 'move or somethin' but he wouldnt tell anyone. Thats irrational and ridiculous. I understand the 'dont snitch' mentallity to a point. But in order to keep your 'street cred' you say you wouldnt help the police catch a serial killer, which in turn could result in the death of innocent people. This is not how a society is supposed to work. People wonder why there is so many unsolved murders and crimes in the 'ghetto,' but then these same people will NEVER help the police. Its a dangerous mindset that enables crime.

Man, what really blew my mind was when they interviewed the kids in the church group that said that they also believed in the "don't snitch" mantra. I really wonder how they reconcile such beliefs with their belief in Christianity. It's sickening to think that no matter the crime - burglurary, homicide, and even rape - some people wouldn't help the police catch the offenders.

I mind my own business. I dont have time to know what somebody else's is doing. To even recognize people that I dont know personally is a great feat.

If you snitch then snitch...If you dont..then don't.

I really have no opinion.

Change it up a bit: If you KNEW 100% that there was a wanted serial rapist next door, would you risk having any of the females in your family or in the neighborhood coming across his path?

Mine is different because the way you may see something..May not be the way I see something.

Im not attacking your opinion, im asking a question about it. This is a debate, and in a debate you normally have to back up your opinion somehow. Not just state your opinion and refuse to defend it. Basically what your saying is, you really haven't thought about it much.

People act as if all hypotheticals are completely irrelevant. The questioned posed to cam'ron, and by me to you, was a good question and illustrated the ridiculousness of his 'stance.' There is a differance between not wanting to 'rat' on your friends and get them in trouble, and endangering society in order to hold onto some type of 'street cred.'

quit sounding so condescending always. It does not make you 'simple' [opposed to 'complex'] if some of your stances are black & white. There is to much grey area in society these days, IMO.

No one's meaning to attack your opinions - you're certaintly entitled to them. But I'm just curious as to what you would do if you were in a situation like that. It has nothing to do with opinion, it has everything to do with being curious of how you would react.

Convicted serial killers are locked up. And any at large are "suspects" that are not convicted of the crime.

It is a hypothetical situation. If a KNOWN serial killer lived next door to you. One that was wanted, or they were searching for him, but you 100% knew FOR A FACT he was a serial killer. Would you call the police? or would that be considered 'snitching' to you and 'uncool'

All it could possibly be is a "suspected" serial killer. Thats if , you believe in the criminal justice system that governs America.

If your asking if Im running around looking for people suspected of a crime? The answer is no.

It makes perfect sense:

You live next door to someone who you've seen repeatedly kill civilians in his apartment. Do you turn him in? It honestly can't get any less ambiguous than that. It's the same question as "If you witnessed a homicide, would you try to get the killer behind bars?". It's not a stupid or unrealistic question at all.

If you wouldn't turn him in, fine. If you would, fine. The issue is just being danced around at this point...

People get killed for snitching on criminals alot in urban inner city communities. So I wouldnt recommend "snitching" there.

I dont care if its a suspected serial killer...the criminal justice system hasnt exactly been consistant.

You put your life and family in danger for "snitching".

I saw this the other day and was going to pose the same question to see how everyone felt about it. I'm still a little confused at the mentallity of this stop snitchin movement.
