Is being "black" a state of mind or a color?

I think to say you are black is state of mind, but to say you are "African American" means your skin color. Many people could classify as being black, if you talk, walk, act and feel it. But if you or your ancestors didn't go through the hardships that true black people did, then you aren't African American. Its one thing to say you are black, its another to actually be black.

African-American just means American with African ancestral decent. Being "dark" has to do with the large amount of skin pegiments in our skin cells. So to me, being "black" is derived from being "dark" skinned. But in African-American's cases, there's two meanings to us being black. Sterotypes from our historical background and our skin color. So yeah, I don't believe it has anything to do with the mind, but both history and skin color.

anyways back on subject...Being Black IS being African American. just like being an African american is being a Negro....its not a state of mind. its an acuality. if u are Black u are of African descent....Now being black/African American is associated with certain stereotypes and stigmas as well as social conditions.

but to answer the Original question: "Is being "black" a state of mind or a color?" Being black would be consider race classification.

I was just speakin on the behalf of blacks in america....I don't know too much about other black coltures but what i said is universal. being Black means u are of African descent.
