ima try and make this is as short as possible cuz i feel shitty but i thought i'd get it out while it's still fresh...
so im at work and i tell the guy im working with 'hey, im not closing tonite i got shit to do, im leaving at 8'... so im working, doing my thing. 7 o' clock rolls around and i start throwing up and im like ohhhhh shit, i want to go home and sleep but i promised ideal i'd come through and support him so yeah, i left work at 8 went home, threw on a clean pair of jeans and my white 'members only' jacket got in my car and headed off for the hour trek up to hollywood.
i end up going into the knitting factory solo because my friend flaked on me, but that's no big deal. so i get there at about 9:35 i was planning on getting there at 9:30 and i rush my ass into the main stage and ideal is already into his first song??? i believe it was his first song it might have been his second or so but anyway, it's a tuesdays school nite so there's not too many people there.
so, i walk straight up to the stage see ideal comfortably walking the stage doing a song that has a chorus demanding that the crowd throw their hands up so immediately my hand goes up into the atmosphere and starts with it's uncontrollable up and down movement. next, he goes into i believe it was either 2 or 3 songs for the ladies... granted each of them were only a verse and a chorus so it really wasn't all that much but he did his thing for all the little ladies that came through to support him.
then after is when he really came to life....

yep, i know all the words for that song and apparently so did all the damn crowd... or at least the dozen or so that had come specifically for him. and after that he went into that 'LA SHIT!!!' and yes, you already know the crowd were throwing up the L's... haha i thought that was a nice touch myself (but my hand never went up once with an L, only with O's and C's, haha)
so afterward he steps off the stage, he's getting his daps from his people and random females so i just sit back and let him do his thing with the females and observe the next rappers that hit the stage. and about 15 minutes later finally we meet, not a whole lot of conversation happens due to the club atmosphere that really makes small talk hard to come by due to the loud music... but anyway ideal did his damn thing.
so, my critique... obviously it's not some big daddy kane, roots, krs one live performance but then again i wasn't expecting that. but honestly ideal did impress me. he seemed extremely confident on the stage and with the mic and honestly sounds much more confident/comfortable on the mic live then he does in his recordings and he had on a real fly jordan get up, he had a good amount of audience participation and most of it didn't seem forced until the very end when he went on that 'when i say ... you say ...' i just felt he did a few times too many but other then that ideal had a real nice live performance.
ideal, you seem like a real cool, down to earth type of dude too, i have to say it was a pleasure meeting you... and yeah, if you ever want to make the drive you're more then welcome to abuse the audio set up i have. and im paying for the next show no matter what you say.
RF and GT should be proud of this man.
